Utopia is a free online strategy game, there are approximately 80,000 players from all over the world. If you are new to the game, you will find some useful information here how to start, how to play, and how to find your strategy. It will need some work in the beginning to get things strait - but don't espair! Once you have grasped the concepts of the game, you can concentrate more on the fun aspects - or on the race for a top ranking!

Utopia - how to calculate an attack with Utopia Angel

First, enter your own information into Utopia Angel attack calculator!

Before you start calculating your attack, copy your own province info into Utopia Angel, and don't forget to enter correct war science and barracks as well as any offensive spells you may have cast, happiness, relations, and possible plague or dragon.

Utopia Angel will do most of it automatically as soon as you copy your province info, but it doesnt do ALL of it, so check before you attack!

A. Target's Crystal Ball (CB)

Cast the CB, it will give you exact numbers of enemy troops, and you can see if the target province has been attacked recently.
After copying the enemy kingdom page first into Utopia Angel, now copy the CB into Utopia Angel.
Copying the kingdom page first adds the province's networth information for Utopia Angel.

B. Spy on Military

If the target province did an attack, it has troops out and probably weakened it's defense - you have to check how much troops exactly are "at home" definding the target's province. Even if all troops are at home, the SoM still shows important information - Defensive Military Effectiveness!

When you do the SoM in the same hour as the CB, you need to send only one thief to do the SoM - this way, there is no risk of losing thieves! Utopia Angel will calculate the exact defense of the target even if the SoM is not accurate. (You get more accurate SoM's by sending more thieves, but it is not really necessary!)

This is the target's SoM and you can see the estimated troops and defense points at home as well as military effectiveness.
Now copy this page into Utopia Angel as well.

C. Survey

Next step is to get a survey to check for enemy forts (which reduce your land grab gains, and add to enemy defense)
Again - send only one thief, it's enough! Copy into Utopia Angel.

This target province has no forts. You also see the target's building efficiency which would be important in case of forts.

D. Spy on Science

Send only one thief again! Also copy into Utopia Angel.
As military science no longer enhances military power, you need the Spy On Science more or less only to determine if it's worth to do a learn attack.

E. Do the calculation (or let Utopia Angel do it for you)

Now before you attack, check the accuracy of the below points in the Utopia Angel Military Calculator!

1. Your offensive power

Utopia Angel will show your available troops when you copy your own province info. Here you adjust how many troops you want to send out, how many horses and maybe Mercenaries.

Be sure personality, number of generals, number of troops and horses, attack style (traditional march or raze) and relations (war/peace/hostile) are correct.

2. Your attack bonuses

check or uncheck fanaticism, dragon, be sure barracks, military and building efficiency are correct

3. enemy troops

after copying the enemy crystal ball, enemies total troops will be shown here. after copying the SoM, the correct amount of troops at home should be shown. (there are some exceptions, for example when the target province has attacked more than one time - in this case, enter the "at home" and "away" troops manually into the section "SoM + CB"

4. enemy defense bonuses

enemy forts and building efficiency as well as military efficiency, protection spells, monarch bonus - be sure they are set correctly!
don't forget to check the relations as well!

5. attack calculation

by changing your attack forces (1) you will see the chances for a successful hit. aim for a 100% chance! usually, you will also succeed with only a 90+% chance, but there is a random factor, and if you have enough defense at home, it's best to play it safe and send enough for 100% success!

before you do the hit, make sure all information is correct to assure correct calculation, and only do the attack when you still have enough defense at home, and when it's worth it! (check the estimated gain).

don't attack when your target province has already been severely hit - your own gains will be not worth the time and lost troops, and the target has suffered enough already

6. switch to the Military Effectiveness tab

Don't forget to switch to the Military Effectiveness tab and check again if you still will be able to make your grab - this usually shows a more powerful defense and you better believe it!

F. make your attack

go the the war menu and do your attack - be sure to have cast fanaticism if you need it, and to send all the generals and troops you used for the calculation!
